As you begin packing for moving day, you are probably nervous about losing things. Maybe it shouldn’t go in this box or that one. Maybe you should just create a moving inventory.
This may sound like a monumental task, but really it isn’t. Write on the box what’s inside and what room it came from. Take pictures of the items in the box if they aren’t wrapped in tissue paper or buried in packing peanuts. Better yet, keep a running list of packed items for each room and assign a numbered box to each batch of items packed.
There are a couple of different ways to create a moving inventory, but these are just a few. Living in the digital age where your camera is in your phone, you could just take pictures of all of the items in a room, and then start packing. No matter how you approach it, you’re creating a visual inventory of items.
Moving is hectic and stressful. Finding little life hacks to reduce the stress helps you feel more calm in the moment. An inventory helps you track where everything is and figure out if anything is missing or misplaced. When everything can be accounted for, either by list or by the pictures you took (or both!) you can rest easy and start unpacking in your new home. Check things off the list or pictures as you go.
If you create a moving inventory, there’s an added bonus. The list or pictures can be saved for insurance purposes. If anything happens at your new home and you need to file an insurance claim, you have the pictures and/or the list to share with the insurance company. It will help you restore anything that was lost to fire, water damage, flood damage, theft, etc., as well as help you with your next move.
